Queers Against Pete

#QueersAgainstPete is a collective of queer people against Pete Buttigieg’s candidacy for president.
We believe the LGBTQIA community deserves better than Pete.

Who are you?

We are a diverse, grassroots group of individuals from across the United States. As a collective, we are not in favor of anyone candidate: we have individuals that support many different Democratic primary candidates, and some that don’t support any candidates at all.

Will you support Pete if he is the ultimate nominee?

As a diverse, grassroots coalition of individuals, we cannot speak for everyone. Many of us will, some of us may not. The signers of our letter will cross that bridge if we come to it. Our priority is to push Pete on issues that matter most to our communities and demand that he center those directly and disproportionately impacted.

Why are you criticizing Pete? He can potentially be the first openly gay Democratic nominee for President.

We’re expressing the ways his proposed policies would either harm or leave the queer community behind. We believe it is important to criticize policies that perpetuate harm, and that candidates should welcome the opportunity to listen to these criticisms.

Are you a Russian bot?

No. Not everyone who disagrees with you is a Russian bot.

What are your funding sources? Who are your top 10-20 donors? Are you affiliated or accepting money from another campaign, PAC, or something similar?

We are a grassroots effort that does not have any funding sources or money. Furthermore, we are not affiliated with any campaign or PAC.

Why are you saying Pete isn’t gay enough?

We have never stated or implied that. What we have said is that being gay isn’t *enough* to warrant our support.

Why aren’t you targeting/disrupting the campaigns of others running for the Dem nomination?

If you are so concerned with the issues that affect the gay community that you talk about here then why aren’t you called “QueersAgainstCandidates” instead of just Pete? Why are you only opposed to Pete when other candidates have committed the same transgressions?
We’re expressing the ways his proposed policies would either harm or leave the queer community behind. We believe it is important to criticize policies that perpetuate harm, and that candidates should welcome the opportunity to listen to these criticisms.

We are uniquely positioned as LGBTQIA+ people to state our opposition to Pete. We’ve seen Black people name the harm he’s caused them and they’re called homophobic. We stand in unity with all marginalized communities and some of us belong to more than one oppressed group.

There are other efforts organizing to voice criticisms about other candidates such as Biden and Bloomberg; some members of our collective participate in those as well.
